Description (Service) | COVID-19 Response Due to concerns regarding COVID-19, the Ontario Works office is closed to the public. Staff are working and available to assist via phone, fax, and email. For any inquires regarding OW, please call 519-376-7112 New applicants should call 519-376-7112 ext 1117 or apply online at http://www.ontario.ca/socialassistance For individuals who are not in receipt of Ontario Works (OW) or Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP), Emergency Assistance is available for those facing a crisis or emergency who have no immediate access to other supports. This assistance is temporary in nature. To apply for this benefit, call 519-376-7112 ext 1117 or apply through the Emergency Assistance Online site Regular Service: Ontario Works Financial Assistance - monthly allowance based on family size, housing costs and income. Provides a monthly drug benefit card, special diet allowance, medical transportation and other services such as:
Sustainable Housing Benefit (SHB) - assists low income residents including seniors, OW and ODSP recipients with rent or mortgage, utility, energy and heat arrears. Staff assist community members with: Families with Children - helps with costs such as child care start-up costs, basic dental care for children, eyeglasses for children. Ontario Works Employment Activities - offers job search programs, employment placement based on individual’s skills, experience and circumstances Learning, Earning and Parenting (LEAP) - helps young parents (up to 25 years of age) finish high school, improve parenting skills and find and maintain employment. May include a temporary care program for children with no available parent. Other Services:
Transportation Program - shuttle service for OW clients who need transportation to attend any employment related activity, including anything needed to gain employment or employment skills. Discuss with case worker to make arrangements. Interactive Voice Response (IVR) 1-800-808-2268 - automated information and payment details, payment history, file status, information and announcements about Ontario Works. Service not available to TTY users. Welfare Fraud Hotline 1-800-394-7867 - to report allegations of fraudulent collection of Ontario Works or Ontario Disability Support Program assistance. This method may take longer to receive financial assistance. |
