Description

Description (Service) Offers exercise classes to community members 55 and older who wish to improve their strength, balance and flexibility, regardless of current physical ability.
  • Designed to increase strength and balance and reduce the risk of falls
  • Classes are available in many community locations within Grey and Bruce Counties
  • Provided by volunteer instructors who have been trained by the VON and certified in the SMART program
Offers two levels of classes:
  • Level 1 - classes focus on gentle exercise for older adults with mobility issues,completed predominantly from a chair in a seated position aimed to improve the participant's range of motion, muscular strength, cardiovascular endurance, and balance
  • Level 2 - classes focus on functional fitness exercises and include: aerobic endurance, muscular strengthening, balance and stretching components that are safe for the older adult population

Dates: Program runs twice a week for 48 weeks of the year with breaks throughout the year (normally two weeks in Dec, one week in Mar and one week in Aug). Dates are determined by coordinators and may vary slightly each year.
